Hak was orphaned in a war between Xing and Kouka, then raised by General Son Mun-deok, his adoptive grandfather. He served as Yona's bodyguard from childhood and was the Wind Tribe general. After Su-won's coup, Hak fled with Yona, seeking refuge in the Wind Tribe's capital, Fuuga. After Su-won murdered King Il, Hak grabbed Yona and fled the Crimson Dragon Castle. They sought refuge in Fuuga, where Mun-deok guided them to a priest. The priest told them the legend of the Crimson Dragon King and his four dragon warriors. Hak stood by Yona as she decided to seek these warriors, determined to reclaim her kingdom. Later, when Su-won proposed making Yona his successor, Hak initially rejected the plan but eventually cooperated to defend Kouka from foreign threats.
